BE THE BOSS
Hola!
As you guys have already read the tittle of this post “BE The BOSS”, I will be sharing my own personal tips in how I became a web design freelancer.
I currently work as a full-time application support engineer for a Marketing Company in NYC and I have finally had the chance to work on my freelance work!
USE YOUR SKILL'S TO HELP OTHERS
If you have a skill that you love & enjoy doing, I highly recommend you to start looking for freelance projects! Its a great way to earn money for doing something you love and something you can have full control of your own time, schedule, and work.
I have always had a passion for the web & visual design Industry! Therefore, I set the goal to practice, practice and practice my skills.
Once I was confident in my work & had gained more knowledge in the web design Industry, I started to take projects as a freelancer!
I took the time to focus on re-designing my freelance website, updating my resume and creating personal projects to show case my skill sets.

Having a full time job & life in general can make it hard to set a time to focus in getting other things done. However, if "freelance" is something you really want to get into - I would say that you need to set a time for it.
Here are my top 5 tips!
- Plan ahead. Open up your calendar & schedule a time that works best for you.
- Design work to showcase for your portfolio. ) Be simple, clean & creative.
- Create an online portfolio - website!
- Promote yourself! Yes. Share your website ( social media, LinkedIn & ext.)
- Be Bold.
PROMOTE YOURSELF

Using google words, making sure your links are functional and creating business cards will help you increase views.
This is one of the main things I find to be the most difficult, but you really have to be bold, fearless & confident in your work!
WHERE CAN I GET CLIENTS FROM?
There are many sites that allow you to connect with other artist, digital & other creative people and you can also share each others work. Behance is one of my favorites!
Okay, so if you are looking for clients - I would suggest the following links.
- people per hour - Gain clients
- Etsy - Open up a shop & sale!
- Design crowd - Not the best one, but it does gives you the chance to practice on real life projects.
- Web-flow - Cms Platform, gives you the ability to design, promote your work & become a web-flow designer.
INSPARATION OR MOTIVATION ?
Not having any potential clients at the time may make you lose motivation and make you want to quit. Don't do it! Below are a few inspiration sites, but you def. don't want to lose hope/passion for something you like :)
Community
- Behance - discover other people's work & follow the community!
- Xo-Pixel - Follow bloggers who have the same goals as you do ;)
YouTube
Mackenzie Child - Connect withYoutube Guru's .... If you don't know something, then teach yourself how to do it.
